Medtronic establishes cardiac digital health software hub in Galway with 85 initial roles

Global medical technology company Medtronic has announced the creation of a European software development hub in Galway, designating the facility as a global centre of excellence for cardiac digital health and signalling continued confidence in Ireland's medtech talent base.

According to The Irish Post, the hub will operate within Medtronic's Patient Care Systems function, focusing on advanced software solutions that support clinicians and patients throughout the cardiac care journey, with a particular emphasis on connected care for patients with implanted cardiac devices. Recruitment for the initial 85 roles is already underway, with information events scheduled in the coming weeks, and the company anticipates further growth over the next three years.

Alex Mann, Vice President of Patient Care Systems at Medtronic, said the investment reflects the depth of engineering capability in the West of Ireland. "This investment reflects our confidence in the exceptional talent, strong engineering heritage and collaborative ecosystem across the West of Ireland. Our vision is to build an enduring software capability that advances cardiac care, accelerates innovation and delivers solutions that empower clinicians and improves patient outcomes worldwide."

The announcement brings Medtronic's total investment in Ireland to approximately €11 billion over 40 years, including €1.2 billion in research and development. Medtronic is headquartered in Galway with an operational base in the United States.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin welcomed the development as a further demonstration of Ireland's standing in the global medtech sector. "Medtronic's decision to expand its Patient Care Systems function in Galway is a strong endorsement of the region's talent base and infrastructure. The immediate creation of 85 high-value jobs will support long-term economic growth in the West of Ireland and provide exciting new career opportunities for local people."
