Advanced nurse practitioner opens private health clinic in Seaham targeting gap in local healthcare provision

A new private health clinic has opened on Church Street in Seaham, County Durham, combining private healthcare services with advanced aesthetics under one roof and targeting a gap in locally available provision that its founder says the NHS is unable to fill.

According to Yahoo News UK, The Health Sanctuary was established by Melanie Foxton, an advanced nurse practitioner with 16 years of clinical experience who continues to work in a local GP surgery alongside running the clinic. Foxton said the decision to open her own premises followed sustained growth in her client base over four years of operating from a rented clinic room.

"I have had my own business and, over four years, have gained more than 1,000 loyal clients and realised I have outgrown my little rented clinic room," she said. "I felt if I was going to open my own clinic, I had to make sure it had something new, appealing and otherwise not available in the NHS under its roof in order to give it a unique concept before opening."

The Health Sanctuary's service offering includes GLP-1 weight loss treatment, therapeutic IV drip infusions, blood testing, and private clinics for menopause and testosterone replacement therapy. Foxton said she identified an absence of immediately local private healthcare provision beyond what she described as basic services the NHS is unable to fund.

The opening reflects a broader trend across the UK private healthcare market, where demand for weight management, hormonal health and preventive services is driving the emergence of independent clinics in areas historically underserved by private providers. GLP-1 treatments in particular have seen significant uptake as prescribing frameworks for weight loss medications have expanded.
