Western delivers £25 million diagnostic centre bringing 150,000 additional tests to Slough patients

A new community diagnostic centre at Upton Hospital in Slough, England, is set to significantly expand access to private healthcare diagnostics following its completion by Co Tyrone-based offsite manufacturer Western, marking a notable addition to the region's healthcare capacity.

The £25 million facility will operate seven days a week, 12 hours a day, delivering up to 150,000 additional diagnostic tests annually across MRI, CT, and ultrasound scanning, alongside respiratory and cardiology testing.

The centre supports earlier diagnosis of conditions including cancer and heart disease, directly reducing waiting times and relieving pressure on Wexham Park Hospital and local GP practices.

James Clarke, Chief Strategy Officer at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, said: "The centre will play a vital role in addressing health inequalities by ensuring that diagnostic services are accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live."

Rory McGuigan, Managing Director of Western, said the project demonstrated how modern construction methods could deliver healthcare infrastructure at pace, adding: "Most importantly, this centre will make a real difference to the people of Slough — enabling faster diagnoses, improving patient experience and supporting better health outcomes across the community."

The 2,800 sq metre facility was completed within 52 weeks, with Western providing a full turnkey solution including internal fit-out, car parking, and EV charging infrastructure.

Developed following public consultation in 2023, the centre addresses longstanding demand for accessible diagnostic services in the Slough area and positions the region at the forefront of community-based healthcare provision.
