Vivasure Medical joins Haemonetics to expand private healthcare reach
Vivasure Medical, a Galway-based private healthcare and medtech company, has been acquired by Haemonetics Corporation (NYSE: HAE) in a deal valued up to €185M (~$215M) upon completion of certain milestones.
The acquisition expands Haemonetics’ footprint in minimally invasive vessel closure technologies.
Vivasure specialises in advanced polymer implants and delivery systems, focusing on percutaneous closure for cardiology, interventional radiology, and vascular surgery. In 2022, Haemonetics made a strategic investment in Vivasure, which included an option to acquire the company.
Earlier in 2025, Vivasure submitted a Premarket Approval (PMA) application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its PerQseal® Elite vascular closure system for arterial procedures. The device had previously received CE mark approval in Europe for both arterial and large-bore venous access, making it the first fully bioresorbable, sutureless closure solution on the continent.
Andrew Glass, CEO of Vivasure Medical, said, “We’re extremely proud of the progress made in advancing closure technology, and grateful to the clinicians who supported Vivasure’s mission. Joining Haemonetics provides the global scale and resources to accelerate the availability of PerQseal Elite and bring its clinical benefits to more physicians and patients worldwide.”
The transaction received backing from multiple investors, including Fountain Healthcare Partners, Orchestra BioMed Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: OBIO), LSP Health Economics Fund, Panakès Partners, and Evonik Venture Capital, alongside support from Enterprise Ireland, Western Development Commission, and the European Investment Bank.
Ger Brett, Chief Operations Officer and Co-founder of Vivasure Medical, added, “We want to thank the Vivasure employees and founders for their dedication and commitment. We’re proud to make PerQseal in Ireland and distribute it around the world.”
