Recare, a Berlin-based technology provider for hospitals and care facilities, has closed a growth financing round of up to €37 million, including a €7 million option, to scale its AI platform and expand its international operations.

EU-Startups explained in a report that the round was led by independent assurance provider DNV, with participation from CIBC Innovation Banking and other investors, making DNV the company’s largest shareholder.

Founded in 2017 by Maximilian Greschke and Charles Cote, Recare focuses on improving discharge management and facilitating effective patient transfer from hospitals to care providers. Its AI agent automates administrative tasks and coordinates workflows to reduce the operational burden on healthcare professionals amid ongoing skills shortages.

According to the company, the AI platform functions as a smart hub connecting existing hospital IT systems. It orchestrates clinical and administrative workflows across departments, automates documentation and routine tasks such as medical letters and handover protocols, and extracts and structures unstructured data from PDFs, scans, and free text into interoperable formats. This helps break down data silos and ensures end-to-end workflow continuity.

“Hospitals are under enormous operational pressure, as healthcare professionals spend increasing time on administrative tasks—leaving less capacity for what matters most: caring for patients,” said Maximilian Greschke, CEO of Recare.

Recare’s AI solution automates and organises workflows by making sense of unstructured data, cutting down administrative workload. The recent capital injection will accelerate expansion domestically and internationally, strengthening healthcare providers’ ability to manage their workforce.

The fresh capital will fast-track the introduction of Recare’s AI agent to hospitals and care facilities while supporting international expansion. In 2024, the company secured €3.2 million to develop the platform.
