The Princess Grace Hospital has invested £2 million in the Intuitive da Vinci Single Port (SP) surgical system, its second next-generation robotic platform within the HCA Healthcare UK network following the introduction of the UK's first da Vinci SP at London Bridge Hospital in 2025.

The Princess Grace Hospital is a private hospital in Marylebone, London, and part of HCA Healthcare UK, the UK subsidiary of HCA Healthcare, Inc (NYSE: HCA), the world's largest for-profit hospital operator. For FY2025, HCA Healthcare reported global revenues of $75.6 billion (€69.3 billion) and adjusted EBITDA of $15.6 billion. HCA UK's estimated revenues stand at approximately $1.4 billion (€1.28 billion); UK-specific EBITDA is not separately disclosed.

HCA UK operates the largest da Vinci robotic fleet in the UK independent sector, with seven systems across The Lister, Wellington, London Bridge, Princess Grace and Christie Private Care.

The structural driver is surgical technology differentiation as the mechanism by which premium private hospitals compete for consultant allegiance and self-pay patients. The da Vinci SP differs from the multiport da Vinci Xi by routing all instruments through a single 25mm port, enabling access to anatomical spaces, the pelvis, chest cavity and lateral neck, that multiport systems cannot reach as efficiently. For urological, gynaecological, thoracic and colorectal procedures, that access advantage translates into a patient outcome differential that surgeons can communicate to referrers and that patients can understand without clinical training.

HCA UK's SP rollout from London Bridge to Princess Grace is a deliberate technology-diffusion strategy: introduce at one flagship site, validate outcomes and surgical team competency, then extend to a second flagship with an established robotic programme. The Princess Grace's 20-year da Vinci history means its surgical teams are already trained on the robotic workflow, compressing the learning curve that makes SP adoption slower at hospitals without prior robotic experience.

For the sector, the trajectory of robotic surgery adoption in UK private hospitals is a direct benchmark for the Irish private sector. The Mater Private, Beacon and Blackrock Clinic networks are each at different stages of robotic programme development, and HCA UK's systematic SP expansion signals the pace at which next-generation robotic capability will become a competitive differentiator across the premium private hospital market.
