Mater Private Network Cork has strengthened its senior leadership team with the appointment of an experienced executive to a newly created chief operating officer role.

According to a report by the Irish Examiner, Brendan Doyle has joined the hospital as chief operating officer, with his appointment described as reinforcing Mater Private Network Cork's commitment to expanding capacity, enhancing patient access, and supporting continued growth across Cork and the wider Munster region.

Doyle brings more than 20 years of executive leadership experience across healthcare and telecommunications. He most recently served as Deputy CEO and chief financial officer at Mercy University Hospital and previously spent eight years with Digicel, supporting the business through a period of rapid expansion across the Caribbean.

Sandra Daly, CEO of Mater Private Network Cork, said: "Brendan has built a career leading organisations through growth, transformation and increasing operational complexity, both internationally and within the Irish healthcare sector. That experience will be invaluable as we continue to expand services and strengthen access to care for patients across Munster."

Doyle said: "Mater Private Network Cork is uniquely positioned to enhance access to high-quality healthcare across the region. I look forward to working with my colleagues in Ireland's leading private hospital group in the delivery of our ambitious plans and to further strengthen operational performance, expand services, and continue delivering outstanding care and outcomes for patients."

The appointment follows Mater Private Network Cork's recently announced expansion of its emergency department service. Bed capacity has increased from 65 to 77, including ICU provision, and the upgraded service now operates a two-consultant model supported by comprehensive medical and surgical rosters, enabling faster access to senior clinical decision-making. The department also provides same-day diagnostics and reporting, ensuring rapid access to subspecialty expertise.

The dual developments, a senior operational hire alongside a material increase in clinical capacity, point to a hospital in an active phase of structured expansion, positioning Mater Private Network Cork to meet growing demand for private acute care services across the Munster region.
