Blackrock Health, a private hospital group operating across Dublin, Galway, Hermitage and Limerick, has gone live with its Meditech electronic health record platform, bringing four of its five clinical sites onto a single system.

The milestone follows many months of planning, testing and training across clinical, operational and technology teams, according to group chief information officer Mike McCann.

"Implementing an EHR is about much more than technology," McCann said. "It is about transforming how we deliver care, improving access to information, connecting teams, and creating a safer, more efficient experience for patients and staff alike." He added that the go-live "is the result of many months of planning, collaboration, testing, training, and dedication from clinical, operational, and technology teams across the organisation."

The platform now gives staff secure access to medical records across the four live sites, supporting continuity of care for patients moving between locations. Full rollout across all five Blackrock Health sites is expected to be completed in 2027, with the group continuing to optimise the system as adoption widens.

The structural driver behind the move is a broader push across private and public healthcare providers to replace fragmented, site-specific records with unified platforms capable of supporting multi-site care models. Comparable programmes are under way elsewhere: the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust completed an Epic EHR launch with University College London Hospitals in November 2025, replacing multiple legacy systems, while Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is scoping a business case for an integrated health record of its own.

For the sector, the go-live confirms that multi-site private hospital groups are treating unified electronic health records as core infrastructure for coordinated, cross-site patient care rather than a site-by-site upgrade.
